| | Jolene's Biography
Jolene Boshoff obtained both a National Diploma in Fine Art and a BTech (Fine Art) from the Tswane University of Technology.
Jolene veritably exists in two worlds, and as such paints under two names: Jolene Boshoff, the painter of super realistic animal studies, and Joe Doe, a painter of futuristic fantasy.
Her nude studies, inspired by romantic pre-Raphaelite art, interpret two facets of present-day womanhood women living in fear in this crime-ridden times, and women aspiring to perfect beauty.
Women are so fearful theyve become reclusive, and as a result miss out on the beauty that does exist around them. To illustrate their paranoia, I depict women blindfolded they dont want to see the horror, or wearing a gas mask, fearful of breathing the air. Yet my paintings are colourful and always feature butterflies a symbol of life Beautiful, frail and often fleeting, Jolene explains.
Then there is the quest for perfection, pursued to such an extent that women might morph into androids through future technology and cloning. Angels, to Jolenes mind, personify perfect beauty and she depicts women as angels, however, their wings are painfully bolted to their flesh symbolizing the agony women endure in pursuit of beauty - the quest to look like the airbrushed models featured in glossy magazines.
She calls these creatures bergirls.
In the real world, Jolene is passionate about animals. She visits the Kruger National Park as often as possible to study the animals and to take photos. Her animal paintings are photorealistic, yet she strives to capture each animals spirit, and personality.
Jolene just held her first Solo-exhibition, "World's Collide", and some of her past clients include The Garden City Clinic, Leopard's Leap Winefarm, The Waterfall Equestrian Estate and KSS. She also regularly illustrates for the magazine "Something Wicked" as her alter-ego, Joe Doe.
Jolene is willing to undertake comissions. |
